wild and crazy weekend

Like most weekends, this one started out with Josh and I looking at a house. It was in the right neighborhood and it looked like a good deal- plus it has two fireplaces. After the last two experiences that we've had when making bids on houses, I wasn't about to get my hopes up, but when I walked in I realized that I wanted to live there.

Most older houses in this area are little ranch houses with a multitude of tiny rooms and little open space, but this one has a much more open feel and while it needs a little updating it does't need major work- like an HVAC system or painting in every single room to get rid of the smell of cigarettes. It's actually got a decent (not 9 acres... but decent) backyard, though it doesn't have a garage. I admit it- I really got my hopes up. I knew I shouldn't, but I did. We'd found a houe a block over only a few weeks before that was under contract only two days after being put on the market, so we knew if we had any chance at all it would only be if we moved very fast.

So we made a bid- again. But this time...

Well, this one is under contract too... to us. Josh and I are starting to wonder if we've lost our minds- my job isn't secure for next year yet and I need to get something temporary for the summer, and then there's the whole baby thing...

Maybe we have lost our minds. But I'm SO excited about finally having a place where we are the only ones with a key and no one else can complain if we get a dog and let it pee on everything we own (we wouldn't do that, but we could) or if we paint the bathroom hot pink and the kitchen "Lizzie Borden Red."

Now we just have to pack before May 18th. Wait... I don't think we ever un-packed everything!

Photo Shoot

We had an appointment with our realtor. The sweet patient man has shown us a million houses and we're starting to think we're just too picky. We saw several yesterday but weren't enamored with any of them. I think we may have to take a break from looking for a week or two. I don't even want to talk about what happened with the other house. The other realtor told us that our offer would be considered and it obviously wasn't.

We also went to my Mom's to dye Easter Eggs last night. It was a lot of fun watching Haydn because she never wanted to take the eggs out so they were all really dark. Then she asked if she could dye one black. For some reason she really likes black.

Josh and I also had an appointment to have pictures taken yesterday- we got to bring home proofs. This one is my favorite:

End of a tiring week

Well, Josh and I have had a whirlwind week. Our offer on the house we wanted was rejected- though the whole situation seems a bit squirrely- so we're back to driving around town looking at houses. So far I've not found anything too intriguing online this morning.

I have the day off- Good Friday! Thanks goodness because the kids have gotten very restless and needy. WE have TCAP testing on Monday so I'm thinking I may actually get some stuff done at my desk while they are testing.

I got my PRAXIS scores back yesterday- I actually passed all three tests I took, even the reading test that I was sure I'd failed. I actually did quite well on it. That means I have one test left and one year of teaching left before I'm fully certified. No classes needed as long as I pass my last test. It's been a nice week.

Last weekend when we were in Oklahoma Josh and I waled around the Lazy J a bit. After we've spent so much time looking for a house I realized that Granny and Papa's house is really close to everything Josh and I have been looking for- lots of open space and potential. It's always felt that way.

We dug up a little mint from my Granny's rosebed by the back door. I was sure it would die before we could get it home, but mint is very hardy and it has perked up significantly. Maybe by the time we find a house I can plant it in the beds and maybe it will spread.

Weekend Pictures

The pictures aren't the best, but I thought they were not too bad to share with you.

Amanda, Lizzie and Tandy's twin sister on the front row.

My Uncle Richard, My Mom, Uncle Craig, Aunt Glenda and Aunt Sheila.
Craig and Tandy taking their vows- I think everyone cried- even me.
This is Caleb Haley and Deidre- they are friends of ours who were kind enough to put us up for the weekend, and they are friends of Craig and Tandy's so they came to the wedding.
Cutting the cake...

pins and needles

Well, it's been an interesting couple days. We went to Oklahoma last weekend- apparently I only really get carsick after dark, and we drove mostly in the day, so it wasn't too bad. My Uncle Craig got married- it was a beautiful wedding and I was really glad we went. Tandy seems to fit him so well and I really pray for the best for the whole family.

We went out to my Granny and Papa's house. We didn't go in- which is probably just as well. It was pretty hard just walking around the yard. It was a cool spring day and it had rained (realy really hard) the night before so the creek actually had water in it. I can't really remember how many years it's been since I saw the creek with any significant level of water in it. But OKlahoma has had a drought for a while. We also saw josh's parents- not long enough, but we did get to spend some time with them. I need to send Carol a copy of The Poisonwood Bible. When they visited earlier this year I loaned her a copy of another Barbara Kingsolver book and I was thinking that she'd like The Poisonwood Bible. It's rather long, but it's a good book. Also, Josh and I put a bid in on a house last night. We're sort of waiting nervously today for our realtor to call us and let us know how the seller liked our bid. I think she will, but until we hear I'm going to be a bit hyped up, I'm afraid. However, the Seller lives in Arizona now so she's in a later time zone, so we might not hear until this afternoon- Oh agony for Chara the Impatient!!

In the mean time, check out these pictures:

The house is a bit odd- or you could say it has a lot of personality! When you drive up you only see a door and the roof.

There's a Trom Wall along the south side of the house for natural heating. In the winter it should cut our heating bills- plus it's got a great porch that looks down ont he back half of our property which is entirely wooded. Apparently you see a lot of wildlife down there. And what else? A green kichen with tons of storage space and it opens to the living area. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms and a small office. Nothing major will have to be done- just painting, cosmetic stuff, and some slight work on the sidewalk and decking outside.

I'm so excited and I'm trying not to get my hopes up.

Also, my brilliant husband got a promotion yesterday- so many reasons to celebrate!
