Okay I realize that this is a little fuzzy, but I just wanted you to see how beautiful it was on Roan Mountain this week. All the snow hung around a little longer than in other places because the trees shaded the area around the river. It was really cold outside but our cabin had a woodstove and it heated up nicely.
This is Josh and I at the top of Carver's gap on December 21st. We spent a few days up there without a phone, or television or even cell phone reception. It was really nice to be out of touch- since our lives are so connected to other people.

A little post

Well, it's almost Christmas. I'm almost done with my paper. It's almost my anniversary. I am almost out of school.
Does it ever feel like along series of almost's, or just about's in your life? Why do I always feel like I'm just about to get what I want in life? Just about to reach that point where things are wonderful and settling into a routine? Things are so upside-down while I'm in school that I am looking forward to things slowing down a little. But I guess things won't ever slow down.
WOuldn't it be nice to freeze your life in one week or one moth when things are just what you'd like them to be? You could savor a christmas for a while, or enjoy you wedding in ways that would mean that you would remember it.
hmm
just a thought

Chocolate Meat

Okay-
A few years ago, right before Josh and I got married I was living with my sister- and that's when it happened. I came home form work and Laura said- Try this. It looked harmless. It was a buiscut. Sort of. Inside of it was meat and chocolate.
Yes, Meat and Chocolate.
Well needless to say- it was also AWFUL. poor Laura was only trying to mix her two favorite things to eat. This has always stuck with me. How to mix chocolate and meat.
Well recently I mentioned this to some people in one of my classes and the next time we came to class there was my friend Tonya with two recipes. I have included them below.

Quick Mexican Mole
1/2 C. Chopped onion.
1 clove garlic, minced.
1 lb. boneless skinless Chicken Breast- cut in chunks.
1/2 c. barbeque sauce
1 square unsweetened bakers chocolate. Finely chopped.
1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes.
Cook and stir onion and garlic in 1 tbsp oil at med. heat until tender. Add Chicken, cook and stir on high heat for 5 min. or until golden brown on all sides.
Add 1/2 c. water and the remaining ingredients; bring to a boil, cover; reduce heat and simmer for 10 min. or until the chicken is cooked through.
Serve with 2 c. prepared rice.
Makes 4 servings.

Secret Chili Recipe
1 lb lean ground beef
3 cans (15 oz.) chili style diced tomatoess undrained.
2 cans (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 square Bakers unsweetened baking chocolate
2 c. shredded chedder cheese
Cook meat in lg saucepan on MH heat until cooked thoroughly, stirr occasionally.
Add tomatoes, beans, chocolate; mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; simmer 10 mins, stirring occasionally.
Top with cheese.

A good night

I just got home from a WONDERFUL night of storytelling. This was my 2nd paying show. The first was last saturday and I wouldn't say they were rude or unkind, but i had a really hard time making a connection with them. Tonight, however, was really awesome. I told at a church in Kingsport TN and th people were warm and welcoming from the moment I came in. When I was telling to them their eyes and faces responded with reckognition and enjoyment.
THis is why I became a storyteller. Not becasue I heard some woman tell Godfather Death when I was in Middle School- because I can communicate things with people when I am telling stories that I can't communicate in other ways. I can connect with people and share the things I value and the things I share in common with them.
I've always been kind of shy and uncertain when I am talking to people I don't know, but when I am telling stories to people who want to hear them, there is a part of me that comes out that doesn't normally.
That's the real reason why I am a storyteller.

Yay!

I wish I could take a picture of my super happy face so you could all see it! My application was accepted for the 6 month marketing support with Doug Lipman!!! I went ahead and registered this morning- I am SO excited!
Also I found a really great Christmas story to use for my show tomorrow. It's about a little fir tree that wants to be beautiful... it needs some tweaking.
Anyway I just wanted to shout it out!
